Course Introduction:

The course aims to give participants the essential basics of South African Labour Relations practice for effective workplace functioning and prepares the participant for more advanced training. The programme covers all the basic areas of Labour Relations law and policy for shop steward functioning. A one day introduction to the role and responsibilities of being a shop steward. Overveiw of basic law and current Labour Relations Legislation in South Africa.

Who Should Attend This Course:

This Unit Standard is for persons who have to interpret the Labour Relations Act, specifically in terms of Bargaining Councils and Collective Agreements, give advice to clients and implement the various provisions of the Act. The person credited with this Unit Standard is able to provide a common understanding of the content of the Labour Relations Act, 66/1995, as amended, with particular reference to the creation and functioning of the CCMA and Bargaining Council, its origins functions and powers as well as the origins of collective agreements, and the understanding of extended agreements concluded in Bargaining Council. The qualifying learner is capable of: Demonstrating an understanding of the creation of the CCMA, its origins, functions, powers and duties. Demonstrating an understanding of the creation and the functioning of Bargaining Council, its origins, functions, powers and duties. Demonstrating an understanding of collective agreements, their origins, structure and legal standing. Demonstrate an understanding of extending Collective Agreements to non-parties.
